I’m a British designer and artist – principally interested in exploring the organisation and flow of information, and how its designed, communicated and understood in our daily lives.
Straddling the boundaries between art, design and technology my work creates diverse digital and physical information objects, products and experiences, infused with data and imbued with meaning.
Data makes us more alive, more human and it can help us discover different narratives about ourselves and our world. I seek to engage audiences by making complex things simple, humanising or softening the unemotional quality of data by working hands-on with digital and physical tools.
Ideally information is received and understood without thinking too much. My work leads me to develop speculative approaches to information communication, exploring how we use all our senses to learn, understand and interact with information.
As a self-confessed info-addict, I believe we’ve only just begun to scratch the surface of the possibilities of progressive, tangible, human-centred information design. In a world overflowing with data its needed now, more than ever, and will change how we perceive and interact with the world around us.
I have worked at creative agencies based in Copenhagen and London, as well as co-founded a design, research and technology studio in London where I led creative teams for 15 years.
As a designer, I’ve worked for a wide range of clients from British Government organisations, to large multi-nationals, artisan shops and independent charities, across a range of sectors including financial, tech, art, recruitment and clothing.
Design activities I have led include research, strategy, ideation, information architecture, user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) low to high fidelity prototypes, data visualisation, user testing, animation, brand identity and graphic design.
I studied Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Ergonomics at University College London (UCL). Graduating with a Masters of Science (MSc). My thesis explored users perception of data physicalizations (physical-visualisations).
I received a Bachelor of Arts, BA (Hons), in Design from Goldsmiths College, University of London, where my final project prototyped the communication of local London weather forecast data via daily animated stories for TV news and printed cartoons for local newspapers.
I work independently and with like-minded designers, engineers, brands and organisations to help develop, explore and communicate information through creatively focused research, thinking, prototyping and design.
